Lots of people feel a bit unsure of where to start when they are learning how to use computers, so we have made a list of good places to help you get started.

Learn My Way is a series of courses that teach everything from computer basics, to keeping safe and learning how to use the internet for shopping or health appointments.

 Learning how to keep yourself and your financial information safe online is essential.. please make sure that you learn how to protect yourself!

You will need to create an account to access the full course programme. To do this you will need an email address (or mobile phone number); there is a guide for setting up an email account in the “Using Email” section, which you do not need an account to view.

For Parents

If you have children at home then it is vital that you learn about the risks that the internet can bring and how to keep your children safe online.
You will probably find keeping your children safe online a bit easier if you have worked through some of the things listed above and are feeling a little bit more confident about how to use the internet etc.

Internet matters is a great website with loads of helpful information: they even have a quiz that you can do, to help you to know where to start!
Help For Parents
Once you’re feeling confident in the basics, Google offer a whole range of courses that teach skills for employment, like using word processing software and spreadsheets. You will need an account for this.

Good Things Foundation
Good Things Foundation, creators of Learn My Way, offer free digital support through a network of organisations listed on an interactive map for local services.
Age Uk
Age UK provides free online resources to help build digital confidence and support those looking to improve their skills.
Ability Net
Ability Net offers free home visits to assist older people or those with access needs in developing their digital skills.
Some local libraries also offer support with digital skills and confidence: options vary, so pop into your local branch to enquire!
