About Wiltshire Digital Drive:

The Volunteer IT Assistant will support Wiltshire Digital Drive, a Community Interest Company (CIC) set up to refurbish and recycle donated laptops to gift back to the community, enabling education in Wiltshire and bridging the digital divide by refurbishing, sorting and grading donated laptops ready for distribution.

The Key Duties of the Volunteer include:

  • To learn and carry out a range of IT and technical support tasks to support the end-to-end laptop refurbishment process including secure disk wiping, refurbishing and visual inspections.
  • To follow step-by-step processes to wipe donated devices securely, grade them and install new hardware so they are ready for redistribution.
  • To work in a manner which protects your own Health & Safety and that of others.

Key Success Factors:  

  • Builds core IT skills and experience in defined areas.
  • Develops confidence in handling laptop refurbishment.
  • Communicates effectively with colleagues, donors and recipients.

Knowledge, Training & Qualifications:
ESSENTIAL:

  • Basic knowledge of using computers/laptops.

DESIRABLE:

  • Enthusiasm to learn IT skills – experience is not essential as full training will be given.

Skills & Experience:
ESSENTIAL:

  • Ability to follow step-by-step instructions methodically.
  • Manual dexterity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members and external contacts in person, by phone and by email

DESIRABLE:

  • Previous work experience in either an office admin, customer service or IT support environment.
